COMPLEX PAPHS

Geisha Doll 'Erin' HCC/AOS

Extremely flat complex with waxy tan/burgundy tones, apple green in the dorsal. $300

Clare de Lune 'Edgar von Belle' AM/AOS

The all time classic in albinistic Maudiae breeding. A natural tetraploid, huge flowers.  $200

Alice Doherty 'Johnny Black'

This is another Alice Doherty to come out very dark. Stem is significantly taller than 'Friendships' AM/AOS, and petals are more horizontal. High award potential in our view! $350

Alice Doherty 'Friendships' AM/AOS

A super flat, super dark vini-complex. Divisions $500

St. Ouen's Bay 'Cerritos' AM/AOS

Round, full, near white on a tall stem, heavily used in complex breeding. $800

Supersuk 'Krull Smith' AM/AOS

Large souped up sukhakulii-like, broad petalled flowers on tall spikes. $250

Promises Promises 'Zephyrus Spot'

Fast growing, waxy white with spots, subtle pink hues as well.  $250

Snowblind 'Robin' AM/AOS

Another classic white complex, with subtle shades of butter yellow. $300

Onyx 'Krull Smith' AM/AOS

Old school vinicolour with solid wine coloured flowers above attractively contrasted mottled leaves. $150

Akegoromo album (wenshanense album x micranthum album)

A 'never seen' micranthum album hybrid, grows mostly like a brachy. $750

Paph. Tuxedo Junction ‘David Warren’ HCC/AOS

Easy growing and free blooming, this nice clone from our friend Wendy H has dark colour and plenty of those sukhakulii spots. $150

Paph. Rory Jones ‘Favourite Manhattanite’ (Satchel Paige x sukhakulii)

A great cross by Frank Smith, the solid black colour, uncrimped form, and particularly contrast on this easy growing vini is award quality. $250

Paph. Onyx ‘Fancy Cherry’ HCC/AOS

One of the first vini crosses to come out, yet it continues to receive awards. Onyx brings very tall stems to its progeny, along with a huge flamboyant dorsal. Better than our ‘Krull-Smith’ AM/AOS divisions, awarded 8 years previous, this has improved colour and form. Watch for it in our future crosses…. $350

Paph. Forest Light ‘Zephyrus Giant’

MAMMOTH is the only word to describe this recent selection from Terry Root’s world class breeding program. It is no less than 15cm across – that’s half a foot! Form is unbeatably flat, and colour is a luminous bright golden bronze. This flower will grab you from across the room. A parent of many of our crosses to come. Our best complex….by far. $1200

Paph. Shirley Amundson ‘Madelyn Doherty’ HCC/AOS (hookerae x acmodontum)

Beautiful electric pink petal tips make this one a standout. Flowers every year in a 2” pot, with tall, elegant spikes. Unawarded sibling pictured on right. Namesake (also pictured) not for sale!! $300

MULTIFLORAL PAPHS

Dollgoldi 'Zephyrus Gold' Striking in person, flowers are simply huge and yellow. $300

Via Viale 'John-John' HCC/AOS (stonei x acmodontum)

The easiest to grow and flower stonei hybrid we have seen.  Will flower every ten months on rapidly proliferating plants.  Usually 2-3 flowered.  $100

Nicole Doherty (Julius x Michael Koopowitz) 'Jordyn'
'Madelyn'

High award potential here, first bloom seedling pictured. Upright stems with long petals, division from the top 5% of the whole batch. $300

Susan Booth 'Zephyrus Predator'
(rothschildianum x praestans)

Made with the rarely seen praestans, these have stunning golden mahogany flowers with prehistoric looking down swept petals. Blooms every year on compact plants. $100

Morganiae 'Bufordiense' HCC/AOS, FCC/RHS
SM/AJOS (stonei x suberbiens)

One of my favourite stonei hybrids, these are 2-3 flowered above broad mottled leaves.  Pinkish flowers with classic stonei influenced dorsal. $150

Sander's Pride (stonei x sanderianum) 'Zephyrus Cheetah'

One of my favourite sanderianum primaries due to the stonei spotting all the way down the petals, well demonstrated in this clone. $400

Stone Addict

Faster growing and more freeblooming than either parent, I have used this in a number of crosses. Never exhibited $400

Dewitt Smith 'Black Bamboo' HCC/AOS

lowii x purpuratum - vigorous growers, always multispiked, looks just like you would imagine, 3-4 flowers per spike
 $100

Berenice (phillipinense x lowii) 'Marilyn' AM/AOS

Another great lowii primary, this is a vigorous grower with 3-5 flowers per spike. $300

Constance 'Nicky-Lynn' AM/AOS

Stonie x curtisii - another great stonei primary with two large pinkish flowers above compact plant. $500

Bel Royal 'Aunt Elaine' CCM/AOS

Although a CCM doesn't really accompany a division, this was named after my dear Aunt from Michigan, and was noted by the judges for its unusual yellow tones. $80

Kolosand 'Zephyrus Tan Dragon' HCC/AOS Super tan petals on this gorgeous, vigorous primary. $450

Vera Pellechia (St. Swithin) x stonei (probable 4N)

Good colour and amazing, well presented dorsal. These have very strong flowers! $250

Screaming Eagle 'Zephyrus Burgundy Curls' AM/AOS, CCM/AOS

Check out our award page for the CCM, this is a great grower, readily dividing unlike many other awarded clones. $750

Praying Isabel (Lady Isabel x praestans) 'Brand New Day' AM/AOS

Here we have a superior combination of rothschildianum, praestans and stonei.  Could not ask for better colour in the pouch, and just LOOK at those twisted petals! Fast growing, readily pushes five flowers/spike.  $500

St. Swithin 'Zephyrus Dark'

Selected by Jack Tonkin himself, this is made with the long petalled, 'downward' philippinense and has extremely dark colour. A regular trophy winner for us! $250

Julius 'Zephyrus Predator' AM/AOS

Setting a new standard for this cross with a  great ruffled dorsal, only a dozen have ever received a higher award! $500

additional clones available:

'Alta Mesa' HCC/AOS $150

'Red Sabre' HCC/AOS $250

'Caesar' AM/AOS $250 (Very colourful)

Paph. Taiwan ‘Zephyrus Gold’ AM/AOS (platyphyllum [AKA stonei latifolium] x rothschildianum)

Huge size, golden colour, and amazing plant vigour. Not all of these have come out to be so golden yellow. $500

Paph. Prince Edward of York ‘Five Stars’ AM/AOS

Great presentation on this contender for the best ever sanderianum hybrid. Look at those broad shoulders! $600

Paph. Mount Toro ‘Sunset Valley Orchids’ HCC/AOS (stonei x philippinense)

My friends understand my obsession with stonei hybrids, readily justified in this example. A beautiful combination of both parents, dorsal is full and clear, with dark, dangling petals. $450

Paph. Lyro Blackhawk ‘Uncle Larry’ AM/AOS (St. Swithin x wilhelminiae)

One of the plants from our AQ in Feb 2008, this plant produced 3 spikes from a 4” pot. Compact growing and very floriferous, this clone has a very nice rosy tan cast. $350

Paph. Lyro Blackhawk ‘Uncle Dickie’ AM/AOS (St. Swithin x wilhelminiae)

Again from our AQ, this clone produces taller spikes with wonderfully corkscrewed petals. Good spacing, good presentation, I have already bred this one with sanderianum. $400

Paph. Lyro Blackhawk ‘Zephyrus Dark’ AM/ZOG [Zephyrus Orchids Greenhouse]

Unawarded, yet equally stunning, this flower has commanding, predatory presence with its downswept petals, and the darkest black coloration of the whole lot. Destined for an AOS award on subsequent blooming. $350

Paph. philippinense x Winged Flight (Berenice x lowii)

I’ve seen Sam’s awarded Winged Flight (one of the few clones) which is impressive in its own right. Brilliantly, he’s crossed it to philippinense to give us what looks like a compact growing, free blooming Screaming Eagle. Certainly awardable when up to size, I have also crossed this one with sanderianum (among others). $500

SPECIES

micranthum album 'Zephyrus Pristine Mint'

Again, never exhibited, the huge pouch on this one is captivating. $4,000

caudatum 'Zephyrus'

A very nice example of a coloratum caudatum. $250

supardii 'John Junior'

I've been growing this since I was 16, and it regularly blooms with 4 or 5 flowers. Very unusual, increasingly rare species. $400

hirsutissimum album 'Aphri' AM/AOS

Stunning platinum looking flowers above a ghostly plant. Only multigrowth divisions available. $300

armeniacum 'Zephyrus Gold'

WOW! Only 1 cm smaller than HOF's recent FCC, this has VERY broad petals and great form. Within moments of taking this photo I crossed it to our best roth…watch for award quality Dollgoldi's in the future…. $750

stonei 'John's First'

My first true love in Paphs, this is the reddish form of stonei. Divisions of my original purchase way back when I was 15. Reliable bloomer, never exhibited.$400

micranthum album 'Zephyrus Perfect Proportion'

Never exhibited, this has pure alba coloring and stunning proportions. Quite likely the best micranthum album you may ever see! $5,000

sanderianum 'Rapunzel' AM/AOS

Crowned World's Largest Orchid Flower by the Guinness Book of World Records, this is the largest of the large we have seen recorded in any awards register. Natural spread of one flower: 95 cm (~38 inches). A spike with five flowers would have 31 feet of petals! Click here to check out the animation on the website for a time lapse view of a recent flowering. Single growth division comes with framed copy of World Record certificate. Sorry, financing not available! SALE! $19,999

Paph. delenatii ‘John’s Black Magic’ CHM/AOS

Stand back folks. This the darkest delenatii awarded to date, as it is the elusive ‘vincolour form’. Leaf undersides are solid black, with a curious black outline on the leaf surfaces. Second picture shows it among a regular delenatii for contrast, along with delenatii album. Wonderfully fragrant! $750

Paph. violascens

Slow growing, this species has nicely tessellated, twisty leaves. Flowers are incredibly long lasting and have that wonderful granny smith glowing waxy green look to them. Rare in the trade, recommended for experienced growers. Min 2-3 growth division. $350

Paph. haynaldianum ‘Zephyrus Green Giant’

This is as big as the largest of the awarded haynaldianums. Beautiful translucent green, check out my thumb, dwarfed next to its pouch! $500

Paph. haynaldianum ‘Zephyrus Vinicolour’

If the colour from this clone could be combined with the size of the above, we would have FCC calibre haynaldianums (don’t worry, I’ve crossed the two). Colour is as dark as you will see on a haynaldianum, this almost looks like it’s been crossed with lowii (it hasn’t). $450

philippinense ‘Norman’ HCC/AOS

Very recently awarded, there have only been five other awards given to this species since. This petals on this clone check in at a staggering 24, wonderfully corkscrewed cm! A superior form of this species, well suited as an FCC calibre parent for next generation Michael Koopowitz or St. Swithin….. $650
