Dollgoldi (armeniacum x rothschildianum)

Gorgeous, huge, yellow, showstopper! DIVISIONS ONLY $150 and up

gratrixianum x barbigerum ‘mini’

Pollen parent flowers from a 4” growth, easily with 4 or 5 flowers in a 2 ¼” pot, great for those with space restrictions. These will be colourful, waxy, on tall stems above dwarf plants. Min 6” LS  $14.99

venustum var. album x fairrieanum var. album ‘Zephyrus Mint’

Hoping for the green reticulated dorsal of pollen parent combined with unique marbled pouch of pod parent. Leaves are indeed pigmented, so these will flower aureum. Good growers, 1-2 years from bloom, min 6” LS. $14.99

Winter Sunshine ‘Yellow-Lime’ B/CSA x fairrieanum album ‘Zephyrus Mint’

We are not the first to use fairrieanum album on to big green/yellow complexes, however this combo has never been performed. Fast growing plants with tall stems, some come out coloratum, however the distinctive dorsal reticulation appears to be retained. Min 5” LS $14.99

Bel Royal (kolopakingii var. topperi x rothschildianum)

Vigorous growers, very floriferous, often with five flowers on a first bloom seedling! Min 5" LS $14.99

victoria-regina x lowii

Another kooky intersectional! Min 4” LS $9.99

Geisha Doll ‘Erin’ HCC/AOS x fairrieanum album ‘Zephyrus Mint’

leuchochilum ‘New Wave’ x ‘Florida Red’ HCC/AOS

Pollen parent pictured, this is the cutting edge of years of line breeding with this very popular brachy. First time in our catalog.

SOLD OUT

supardii ‘John Jr.’ x ‘Dr. John’

This is a sib cross of our two best supardii’s, which is notoriously reluctant in the lab. Pod parent regularly blooms with 4-5 flowers, quite rare in the trade.

SOLD OUT

kolopakingii x self

Famously floriferous, vigorous growing species. Min 3” LS $19.99

niveum x sib

These are mature, often multigrowth plants, many have just finished blooming. One flowered out aureum, so there are indeed alba genes in this batch. Pic is representative of the overall flower quality of the group – very nice. $39.99

topperi x self

The green and white version of kolopakingii, this species is one of the parents of our recently awarded Bel Royal. The parent plant carries alba genes, as we have seen at least plants from this selfing come out as TRUE, pure green and white albas (worth thousands $$$). Consider this your own lottery ticket…..min 3” LS $29.99

ALBINO PAPHS - In this section we have focussed on the ghostly paler versions of some of our favourite species and hybrids…

concolor 1/2 album x sib

We have crossed two 1/2 album concolors, ensuring some of these progeny are vigorous, true albums

Divisions $200    Compot $150

charlesworthii album

This is a sib cross from Norito, sure to be setting the new standard for this rarely seen species. Mature seedlings, beginning to push second growths. $99.99

concolor var. album x godefroyae var. album (Wellesleyanum)

Charming primary with large, pristine white flowers. Pic is taken from this group, so they are all certainly albinistic. Divisions $99.99

philippinense var. album ‘Albino Beauty’ AM/AOS x sib ‘Jeanie’s Delight’ AM/AOS

Line breeding of this color form has taken the flower size and overall quality to be on par with the regular coloratum forms. You cannot ask for better parents here! Flowers on much smaller plants than the coloratum form too. Min 4” LS $39.99

bellatulum var. album x delenatii var. album (Vanda M. Pearman)

Due to the colour on the leaves we knew these would not be true album, as seen in the picture. It is still a very nice (and large) primary, the selfing of which will yield some true albums. Limited. $49.99

micranthum album 'Zephyrus Perfect Proportion'

Never exhibited, this has pure alba coloring and stunning proportions. Quite likely the best micranthum album you may ever see! Divisions $5,000

micranthum album 'Zephyrus Pristine Mint'

Again, never exhibited, the huge pouch on this one is captivating. Divisions $4,000

SANDERIANUM SUPER-SECTION BACK TO THE TOP

Primary Hybrids – listed below are first generation sanderianum hybrids made with another species. Primaries always have a certain degree of charm as both parents can be easily recognized in the progeny.

sanderianum x gigantifolium

A brand new hybrid, gigantifolium looks like stonei x supardii, with more flowers. These will be similar to Sander’s Pride, hopefully with better coloration and more flowers! (gigantifolium pictured)  12" LS $149.99

SOLD OUT

Angel Hair (St. Swithin x sanderianum) - a great near primary, these are nice size seedlings ~1-2 years out of flask, Min 4" LS. $14.99

Michael Koopowitz (sanderianum x philippinense)

Next generation seedlings from Taiwan, hoping for those broad shoulders and corkscrewed petals. Min 5” LS $19.99

Next Generation Hybrids – as with most other primary hybrids, they behave differently when bred due to the segregation of their genes during meiosis. Because of this, second generation crosses lead to greater variability, with a portion of the progeny heavily favouring one or the other grandparents. TRANSLATION: the best of these will be even better than the primaries!

Paul Parks x sanderianum

Another unflowered hybrid, this will be 75% sanderianum, and 25% adductum from the grandparent. Plants will essentially be darker, long petalled, on smaller growing, easy blooming plants. Because of the ways genes segregate in primary hybrids, SOME of the Paul Parks ovules will breed more like sanderianum (and an equal number more like adductum), so perhaps 25% of these will have bred like straight sanderianum. Therefore at best, some of these will be HUGE, and at worst, just like Paul Parks! 12" LS $149.99 (Paul Parks parent shown above )

SOLD OUT

Phrag. kovachii hybrids have arrived at Zephyrus Orchids!  All offerings are in 2 ¼” pots, and will have a minimum 6” leafspan.

A typical Phrag. kovachii is ~18 cm wide or more, about twice the size of a very large besseae (9 cm). The pure species is proving to be slower growing than the hybrids, apparently preferring cooler temps and somewhat adverse to pure sphagnum as a growing medium. THE HYBRIDS, however, are just as weedy as any other Phrag hybrid under the same conditions! Many of the first hybrids have already been flowered in a very short time from flask (unlike straight kovachii).

Here are just a few comments from satisfied customers who have purchased these plants from us:

“Just to let you know that I received my kovachii special and they are beautiful. I would like to know if the offer is still on and I could place another order for the same price?”

“I was pleasantly surprised at the vigour and size of the plants.  Thanks again.”

Phrag. Jason Fischer

Probably the best red phrag out there right now, there seems to be little chance of the new kovachii hybrids stealing this crown just yet as they have been coming our more pink than red. This batch has that gorgeous 'square petal' look, red red red. $69.99 SOLD OUT!

Old school breeding here gives large whitish pink flowers above robust, fast growing plants. 1 gallon pots, multigrowth and blooming size $49.99

Mexipedium xerophyticum

The dwarf slipper from Mexico, this is a slow growing, consecutive blooming miniature. Prefers bright light and high pH, limey conditions in the medium (check out the oyster shell in our MEDIA section). Perfect for under lights or windowsill, these can form impressive specimens. These are 1-2 years from blooming. Minimum 4” leafspan. $99.99
